Herniated Disc Care in Chandler AZ

Spinal discs are like little cushions that stand between your two dozen vertebrae. If vertebrae has their cushion split, it can create discomfort and pain.

Your spine is made up of several bones known as vertebrates. In between these vertebrates is a soft layer that is the intervertebral disc. Discs are like cushions that stand between the vertebrae in your spine.

Herniated/bulging discs occur when this soft jelly-like of the intervertebral disc splits and the discs breaks through. The breakthrough of the disc will then apply different degrees of pressure and stress to the nerves.

These bulging discs are very common that can painfully resulting in one of your spinal discs compressing against an adjacent nerve root creating this discomfort and sometimes pain.

Herniated disc back pain

What is the difference between Bulging and Herniated discs?
Answers from Randy A. Shelerud, M.D.

“A bulging disk extends outside the space it should normally occupy. The bulge typically affects a large portion of the disk, so it may look a little like a hamburger that’s too big for its bun….Bulging usually is considered part of the normal aging process of the disk.

A herniated disk, on the other hand, results when a crack in the tough outer layer of cartilage allows some of the softer inner cartilage to protrude out of the disk. Herniated disks are also called ruptured disks or slipped disks.”

Unfortunately, once you develop a bulging disc or herniated disc it does makes you more susceptible to having additional future back problems. Important: this is why it’s important to remain strong, focus on your health and wellness, be as flexible as possible and maintain a healthy body weight each day.

Back pain is no laughing matter

Most people in their life will suffer from some sort of back pain or discomfort. This can present its painful self in the form of tingling, numbness, and/or weakness. Commonly recognized as affecting your arms and/or your legs. Again this is all because it associates with that bulging disc and the pressure that it is applying to the nerve. Since the spine is made up of several sections and many vertebrae, this condition can happen anywhere on the spine. It can be low back, high back/neck, as well as mid back (cervical, thoracic, or lumbar bulging discs). Depending on the severity and location it will affect each person differently. Depending on the extent of the bulging disc the pain level will vary as well.
